News / The Flavours of the Vipava Valley 2015, Wine and Culinary Festival

Vipava Valley, Friday, 15th May 2015

The second weekend of May is traditionally dedicated to the festival of wine and cuisine The Flavours of the Vipava Valley (Okusi Vipavske). Set in the beautiful interior of the Renaissance Manor House Zemono that boasts a beautiful setting on a hill, amidst vineyards overlooking the Vipava Valley the festival guides you through a two-day journey filled with beautiful wine flavours and tastings from some of the finest local and world-renowned culinary masters. This year edition, already the 9th, took place on Sunday, 10th and Monday, 11th of May 2015.

The Festival is dedicated to the passionate lovers of rich and diverse flavours of wine that go perfectly with culinary delights. Every year over 100 excellent wines from Vipava Valley by 38 local wine producers and guesting wine regions are presented. This year we hosted winemakers form Stajerska region (Slovenia). Apart from series of tastings, the visitors got an opportunity to attend workshop with Jordan Cigoj (Tourist Farm Arkade) the farmer who breeds Mangalica pig on his Estate. Mangalica means “hog with a lot of lard”. Not only does the Mangalica pig have a lot of lard, it has a lot of curly hair which makes it resemble a sheep. On Festival there were also organized culinary tastings about locally inspired dishes prepared by Slovenian culinary bloggers which also generated enthusiasm among visitors.

Under beautifully shaped stone arcades visitors could find many treats from Vipava Valley offered by rich selection of the Marketplace. There you could find cheese, honey, meat, herbs, olive oil and bakery products that enriched the Flavours of Vipava Valley.

Besides wines there was a focus also on culinary. It’s a line-up of great restaurants and talented culinary stars that give special attention to superb ingredients, clean tastes and modern preparation techniques. And finally this year the visitors had the opportunity to participate a six course lunch by Michelin starred chef Nino Di Costanzo and Slovenian top chef Tomaž Kavčič. Two artists who created the most beautiful, delicious and accomplished dishes … It was excellent, of course!

The festival visitors had an opportunity to experience Vipava Valley as an attractive tourist area with excellent cuisine, local products and fine wines.

We invite you to visit festival web page or festival FB page and make a mark on your calendar for next edition in May 2016
